Nuneaton’s own Battle of Britain Day service

Airmen who lost their lives whilst serving at Nuneaton's two local Wartime airfields were remembered today during a special service that took place at the Nuneaton's Oaston Road Cemetery on the 79th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

This years’ service also marks the 80th Anniversary of the start of WWII that triggered the escape of the Polish Airmen who fled to Britain to join the RAF to continue the fight. Many of the Polish Airmen being stationed at RAF Bramcote, the graves of 29 of them lay in Oaston Road Cemetery as a lasting reminder of their defence of Britain and their homeland.

Following the service Flt Lt Paul Hincks Officer Commanding 121 (Nuneaton) Squadron, said, “We would take this opportunity to thank all those people who have helped to make today’s service a reality. We would also express our sincere thanks to everyone who attended the service for their support. We hope you have found today’s service that remembered the British, Polish and German airmen who lay in the Oaston Road Cemetery a rewarding experience and we hope we will be able to count on your support for next year’s Battle of Britain Day service on Sunday 13th September 2020”.

One extra thing we would ask is, if anyone took any photographs of today’s service, we would like you to share them with us. If you would like to do so, please message www.facebook.com/121NuneatonSquadron/
